| Masks and Alterations is an exploration of female identity in physical form. These images symbolically speak to a culture filled with the obsession to alter our bodies, whether naturally done through exercise or more drastic measures like plastic surgery. We alter our bodies to fit in or stand out. We women seem to think we need to construct or deconstruct ourselves to be another size or shape, to be more acceptable to others or possibly to ourselves. In the past, these alterations have been uncommon and considered almost exotic; however, now with breast enlargement services being offered on billboards, these surgeries are presumed to be normal. The young women of today may never look like they are growing old - they may become ageless. | |||||
